TRANSFER OF MANAGEMENT TO ARPA LOMBARDIA OF THE NEW AIR QUALITY MONITORING STATION IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF BERGAMO

Following the required testing and measurement calibration period, starting in January 2026, the station began collecting data on major regulated atmospheric pollutants (nitrogen oxides and nitrogen dioxide, PM10, PM2.5, ozone, sulfur dioxide, and carbon monoxide). Initial analyses confirm the data highlighted by the ARPA Lombardia campaign.

Through a five-year agreement starting in October 2026, ARPA Lombardia will continuously process the data recorded by the new monitoring station, validating and enhancing the data collected throughout 2026. The new fixed air quality monitoring station, selected jointly with the Municipality of Bergamo and ARPA Lombardia, will become part of the broader regional network for atmospheric pollutant analysis.

Air quality monitoring has always been a key focus for SACBO, which over the years has carried out over thirty measurement campaigns across various areas surrounding the airport.

The findings collected over these years have shown a picture substantially consistent with that recorded by other stations in the regional network, never indicating, for the main regulated pollutants, airport activities as a dominant source compared to the overall air quality status.

The Air Quality Monitoring Plan, implemented by the airport operator in coordination with ARPA Lombardia, includes five additional stations identified in agreement with the local municipal authorities in the territories of Azzano San Paolo, Grassobbio, Orio al Serio, and Seriate.

In 2026, the planned campaigns were conducted in the Municipalities of Orio al Serio and Grassobbio, and their results will be published by the end of the year.
