SACBO LAUNCHES THE SECOND EDITION OF THE “BIKE FUTURE CHALLENGE” PROJECT

SACBO, the company managing Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY), the first airport in Europe to receive the “Bike Friendly” certification, is launching the second edition of the “Bike Future Challenge” project for the 2026–2027 school year. The initiative is aimed at upper secondary schools in Bergamo and its province and seeks to raise students’ awareness of sustainable mobility, cycle tourism and slow tourism, actively engaging them in a creative challenge to help build a more sustainable future.

The 2026–2027 edition of Bike Future Challenge is being launched as part of European Mobility Week 2026, dedicated to the theme “Mobility for Everyone” and intergenerational equity: mobility that is accessible, safe and sustainable for people of all ages, where today’s choices do not compromise the opportunities available to those who will travel tomorrow.

The project is open to all upper secondary schools in Bergamo and its province, with participation available to individual classes or interdisciplinary groups led by designated teachers. Schools wishing to take part in the initiative must register by 16 November 2026. Participating schools will then take part in an educational programme giving students the opportunity to develop ideas and concrete proposals that can have a positive impact on their communities and local area.

Students will be invited to develop ideas, prototypes, campaigns or projects focusing on sustainable mobility, intermodality and cycle tourism, in line with the theme “Mobility for Everyone”. Particular emphasis will be placed on projects addressing mobility from the perspective of intergenerational equity: solutions and services designed for children, young people, adults and older people; safe routes for students travelling to school and for people with reduced mobility; and ideas that bring together the needs of different generations.

The first classes to register will have the opportunity to take part free of charge in a guided tour of Milan Bergamo Airport, with a particular focus on facilities dedicated to cycle tourists and the development of integrated mobility.

The Bike Future Challenge project fully reflects the spirit of the UN 2030 Agenda, helping to guide young people’s work towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Students from participating schools will have the opportunity to:

• develop cross-disciplinary skills related to civic, environmental, historical and cultural education;
• propose innovative solutions for sustainable mobility;
• gain practical experience through real-world activities connected to the world of work and active citizenship;
• meet experts, start-ups and associations working in the field of sustainable mobility.
