AMELIA CORTI IS THE NEW DIRECTOR GENERAL OF SACBO, TAKING OVER FROM EMILIO BELLINGARDI AS OF 1 MAY 2024

Ms. Amelia Corti has been appointed to take over from Emilio Bellingardi, who will end his term in office on 30 April 2024. Holder of a degree in Management Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Amelia Corti gained experience in management in the industrial sector before taking on airport handling activities in 2017 with the founding of BIS, contributing, with safety as a priority, to the high levels of operational performance and efficiency achieved at Milan Bergamo Airport.

Emilio Bellingardi is ending a brilliant career, having spent 45 years in the airport sector, with a strong strategic, operational and commercial background. With SACBO since 2006, he contributed to the operative and infrastructural development, as well as the growing success, of Milan Bergamo Airport, which over the course of a decade became the third airport in Italy in terms of passenger traffic and gaining a position as one of the leading international airports.

SACBO BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVES FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR 2023

The Board of Directors has approved the financial statements for SACBO S.p.A. and the consolidated group statements which include the financial statements for SACBO S.p.A. and those of the fully-owned company BGY International Services S.r.l.

The 2023 financial year marked the definitive overcoming of the crisis surrounding the pandemic, and the consolidation of the competitive standing of Bergamo Airport on a national and European level, with the airport solidly maintaining its third-place position in Italy, behind Fiumicino and Malpensa, and its 35th place in European rankings.

The excellent results obtained by the Group allowed the negative impacts caused by the series of events between 2020 and 2023 to be absorbed. Reference is made in particular to the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical instability in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian crisis, rising inflation caused by the energy crisis and the consequential increase in interest rates determined by central banks.

Recovery has been aided by the addition of four new airlines (FlyDubai, Georgian Airways, Norwegian Air Shuttle and CaboVerde Airlines), which has brought the overall number of airlines operating from the airport to 25, expanding the network to 154 destinations reached, in 42 countries.

SACBO’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW AIRPORT SERVICE CENTRE

SACBO’s Board of Directors, chaired by Giovanni Sanga, has approved the project for the construction of the new Airport Service Centre on the area owned by the company, near the P3 intermodal surface car park with space for 5,000 vehicles. The project will be completed by 2026 and envisages buildings linked to the airport’s operations and a 180-room, 4-star hotel structure of an international brand, developed in synergy with one of the most important Italian groups operating in the hospitality sector. This group will handle the hotel’s management, providing a series of services regarding the airport, such as an information desk, a left-luggage facility and a shuttle service to and from the air terminal.
SACBO has allocated more than 24 million euro for the construction of the hotel, in addition to the 4.3 million already incurred for preparatory work. A study performed and repeatedly updated revealed that the hotel development constitutes an opportunity for improving the range of services offered to passengers at the airport, while, with the return to full-swing air traffic, the demand for accommodation in facilities close to the terminal is increasing.
