SACBO’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW AIRPORT SERVICE CENTRE

SACBO’s Board of Directors, chaired by Giovanni Sanga, has approved the project for the construction of the new Airport Service Centre on the area owned by the company, near the P3 intermodal surface car park with space for 5,000 vehicles. The project will be completed by 2026 and envisages buildings linked to the airport’s operations and a 180-room, 4-star hotel structure of an international brand, developed in synergy with one of the most important Italian groups operating in the hospitality sector. This group will handle the hotel’s management, providing a series of services regarding the airport, such as an information desk, a left-luggage facility and a shuttle service to and from the air terminal.
SACBO has allocated more than 24 million euro for the construction of the hotel, in addition to the 4.3 million already incurred for preparatory work. A study performed and repeatedly updated revealed that the hotel development constitutes an opportunity for improving the range of services offered to passengers at the airport, while, with the return to full-swing air traffic, the demand for accommodation in facilities close to the terminal is increasing.

SACBO ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF THE NORTH-EASTERN SECTION OF THE AIRPORT PERIMETER CYCLING AND PEDESTRIAN RING ROUTE

The president of SACBO, Giovanni Sanga, illustrated during a press conference the opening of the new section of the cycling and pedestrian ring route, located in the north-eastern area of the airport perimeter. The new route is 1,800 metres long, leading from the new roundabout on Via Paderno, direction Seriate, to the path leading to threshold 28 and connecting with the Parco del Serio cycle route. During the conference, a presentation was made regarding the state of planning for an additional section of the cycle and pedestrian route, which will be constructed leading from the roundabout on Via Paderno, direction Seriate, to Via Cavour in the municipality of Orio al Serio, at the location of the Taramelli Aero Club, allowing access to existing cycle routes in the municipalities of Seriate and Orio al Serio. Works for the additional section of the cycle and pedestrian route, which will be 1,200 metres in length, are planned to take place in 2024. The cycle and pedestrian ring route will be extended to the connection point to the roadways east of the airport, along Via Matteotti in the municipality of Grassobbio, as part of the works provided for in the new Airport Development Plan. Furthermore, SACBO has co-funded the “My Castle Street” project, developed by the municipalities of Bagnatica, Calcinate, Cavernago and Costa di Mezzate, with the support of the Lombardy Region and the Province of Bergamo and in line with the proposal to create a “gentle trail” connecting the castles of Malpaga, Cavernago and Costa di Mezzate. Both the cycle and pedestrian ring route and the “My Castle Street” project connect to the BERGAMO-BRESCIA cycle route and the “MUOVIMI” cycle and pedestrian route, currently under construction, which connects the city of Munich and the city of Milan. The press conference also saw the announcement of the cycling event with gravel bikes, which will take place on Saturday 17 February and Sunday 18 February, promoted as part of the initiatives organised in relation to the Agritravel Expo trade fair, due to take place at the Bergamo Exhibition Centre.
